What is the best way in EasyPC to route differential traces?
I am working on a large multilayer board which contains quite a large number of high speed differential traces which require a specific (predefined) trace width and gap to maintain the same impedance across the track.
It is very tedious to perform the routing in such a way that the gap is always the same, since the grid cause the gap to be different depending on trace angle.
The trace hugging option makes life a bit easier since it keeps the gap at the minumum defined file, but when I need to shift traces in a later stage of the design, the gap is changed and the trace will need to routed again.
What is the best way to do this? Are there special option I need to take a look at?
Track hugging is your best option ... I have used this a lot on diff traces. As far as later editing goes .... well all I have done is move one of the traces accordingly and then re-layed the second again using track hugging. You can of course multiselect pairs of track segments and move them together if that gives you the desired adjustment you want. The heads up display will be a welcome help when laying diff traces to get them to be the same lenghts.
