Duplicate a resistor (example component only) and then place it . The new resistor designator auto increments to old resistor designator+1.Good!
But now ALT V to auto "step & place" resistors neatly, and the new designator => old designator. No auto increment of designator. So you end up with upteen resistors in your design each with the same designator.
Fortunately, the DRC does pick this up with a "Common Pins" error, before you have to correct the schematic. |

Hi Iain, yes, ALT V is replicate on my set-up, (thought it was default short-cut key?) but you "shouldn't" be able to replicate any "component" on a given design without incrementing the designator value.
If what's copied has a designator, -auto increment it! |

Ummmm! Works for me too - today, BUT I really did have this problem last week (and several months ago) as I remember having to re-allocate dozens of identical resistor designators on the one schematic sheet.
In the past, I'd performed a "Forward Design Changes" and the identical components appeared in the pcb layout, -and I had to call in Support as I could no longer edit/delete the components.
Gone back to last weeks schematic (on which the problem arose) and, I must admit that it does appear to work correctly now.

Iain, I accept the old age factor, but lack of, or too much alcohol, I'm not sure! |
