The library parts provided for Design Spark users via ModelSource looks like a great feature that I cannot enjoy at present with EPC.
So I'd like to be able to import RS Components Model Source library components/schematic/pcb footprints into my EasyPC library.
If not, why shouldn't I ditch EPC and use DesignSpark?

It would also be a great marketing opportunity for Number One to encourage users to upgrade from Design Spark to Easy PC.

Indeed, unless their agreement with RS prevents them from doing this which would be very unfortunate.
I find Numberone's product strategy is strange, when you consider they never suggest that I upgrade to Pulsonix from EPC. All their products seem to be kept separate and upgrade opportunities are seemingly missed.
Tragically, by making the file format incompatible they seem to have destroyed that prospect.

I have been offered Pulsonix, and I am sure it is much more powerful. However a lot of my customers want to tweek their own designs after handing it over to them.
If I did it in Pulsonix then they would need to fork out a lot of cash. This is where EasyPC comes into its own, powerful enough but will not break the bank. Designspark is a shadow of EasyPC and is a toy in comparison.

That may be Ian, but my point is the different products don't have an easy upgrade path, but are compartmentalised. As users we are the losers when we can't use features that a free version, DesignSpark offers.
If DesignSpark could read your EPC files your clients wouldn't even have to buy EPC. That might make commercial sense for Numberone, but why EPC can't read DesignSpark files is very disappointing.

I spoke to numberone on all these issues a whole back, and was basically told it was down to license agreements. But I do agree that at the very least EPC shośld be able to import Designspark.
Also I would be interested in using Pulsonix but only if it would export to EPC

Hmm, that's as I suspected. That rather begs the question, as to who writes the licence agreements? I agree with your points regarding DS and Pulsonix import/export.
