It should be very convenient to save a new component from a schematic to a library. I create library parts for all of those I use, so I have values for (e.g.) resistor value, package, tolerance, distributor order code etc. When I need a particular part that isn't in my libraries, I place a generic part (e.g. R_0603) then add the value fields for the specific part.
Then, I should be able to "save component to library" from the schematic, so I can use the same part in subsequent designs. However, when I do this the values are stripped from the part, which defeats the process.
It would also be really helpful if you could rename the part during the "save to library" process, otherwise either a) you overwrite the generic part or b) you have to save to a temporary library, go to that library, rename it, then move it to the correct library.

Paul, re. your last point. Open the component in component editor, then go to save it again (to library) and over write the component part it offers you with your new component name. Same component with different names, i.e. component re-named. Hope this helps.
