First I'll point out I have just re-installed and am starting everything
from scratch (inc my own libraries) to try and resolve my non-start problem (sadly it didn't but anyway...) Everything is still at defaults.
As things stand I have a newly installed V13 upgraded to 13.08
When creating a component I wanted to edit a pad style but noticed
the units had swapped from metric to imperial.
Can anyone confirm this is normal behaviour due to prior pad design
or whatever please? Or can I prevent this in case I miss it in future.
Is there a central place I can enforce one or the other system for all activity?

There is a menu item which allows you to toggle units between imperial and metric. You can set this to a shortcut key for ease of use. Use customise menu to achieve this.
As for your other question......... where settings are stored etc. .... I've been using EZPC for years and before that Pulsonix and I really couldn't answer your question with any degree of certainty.
Some settings might be stored in your technology file. This might be saved when you save the component you are editing. Perhaps some of these settings might then be applied when you open a different component for editing later... maybe. Maybe each component in the library has its own version of the technology file. Its quite hard to tell. If you work it out please do let me know.

Yes I know I can change the units easily enough - what bothers me is the system quietly swapping or worse still - quietly swapping without even notifying me.
I was hoping I'd missed something in the docs and could force all design activity to one or the other.
I've been using coreldraw for vector graphics for so long - perhaps I'm just
spoiled. I miss so much of what it has when I try and use anything else.

With designs, the technology file dumps its settings into the new design and bows out, so any changes you make to the design won't be altered back.
With symbols it's more complex. Most of the settings are supplied by the technology file associated with the symbol editor, apart from settings essential to the symbol, such as styles and layers used in it. The problem is that the goal posts keep moving. The number of parameters saved with a symbol has been gradually creeping up.
To make matters worse, in a library, a symbol format is only changed when necessary, usually when a new version is saved. That means that an old library can have a complex mixture of symbols of different ages, containing different amounts of information.
Of course, it would be too easy to be able to tell the vintage of a particular symbol. As far as I know this can't be done.
When you've set the units for a particular symbol, the best way to ensure they stick is to save it back to the library. The current format should remember, but older ones won't. |
