Is it possible to edit a sybol in the design? For example if I place a component on the scematic and i have to flip it the text can sometimes end up overlapping part of the symbol. I would like to know if I could edit THAT instance of the component symbol so the text is not overlapping
other lines.

But I do not want to edit the symbol in the library.

Thanks
Tim C.

You're not very clear as to what the offending text is. If it's just free text embedded in the symbol, and it's moving when flipped, then that's a bug, so would you please provide an example to the support desk.
If it's some of the normal text, like pin names and numbers, or component references, then you can just select it and drag it to where it should be. If you can't select pin names or numbers, you can enable this on the 'Settings and Highlights' tab under [View], [Display].

Hi Peter,

I think it's the former... as I recall having a similar problem a while ago. It only happened with text, IIRC; I made a letter out of lines, and that was fine!

In general, I think it would be useful to be able to move the text on a symbol.

For instance, a polarised capacitor (SMT) needs to have the silkscreen to show which end is '+'. However, sometimes the layout of the board means that the '+' gets lost under another bit of silkscreen. At this point, it would be nice to be able to move just that bit of text. At the moment, if that happens, I define a new version of the symbol with the text in a different place, which is somewhat irritating!

The problem is as Olga described, the offending text is a piece of text I used on a symbol for silk screen puposes, and it ends up overlapping the symbol when flipped. My work around was the same as Olga's, creating a second symbol in the flipped orientation.

Is there a way to attach two or more symbols to a component so I can choose what orientation to place on the schematic? This would mean the same pin numbers for each symbols would have to be allowed to be mapped to the single footprint, is this possible?

No, not at the momemt. It's an interesting idea, sort of like the package function in the pcb side. I'm not sure quite how it could be made to work with multiple gates though - would they all have to change, or just one.

Please send a copy of the problem pcb symbol in to support. If you open it in an editor and use [File], [Save As], the symbol file will be fine. Thanks.
