Hi again!

I'm busy checking through a load of stuff with V12, so I'm finding more things to give you grief about!

This one is the 'select ignores fixed item' option. In general, I like it (I think I was one of the people hoping for this option!).

However, if an item with connectivity (in this instance, a 20 way connector) is fixed in place, the pads are also not selectable! This makes it rather difficult to double click to start tracks from the middle of them, etc!

Might it be possible to make the /item/ itself non-selectable, but the elements within the item (pads etc) selectable?

Best wishes,
Olga.

I was another who rooted for the 'ignore fixed items' option, so I tried to replicate the problem- for me, I can start tracks on the pads of a fixed component just fine! Is there some other problem (like you've accidentally hidden tracks for the layer you're working on)?

I can start a track on the pad, but it doesn't automatically snap to the middle of the pad, which it normally would if the connector wasn't fixed.

There's a fundamental problem here to do with cascaded structures and inherited properties. If something is disabled at a high level, then everything below that will also be disabled - a bit like hiding a folder, then wanting sub-folders to display.

In theory it would be possible to make the fixing at the top level conditional upon a local flag, and cascade that down, but it would get very messy, as the data structure would need changing to include the relevant flags at each level.

I'll note the problem for the programmers, and see if they can come up with a way to make pads selectable through the back door!

At the moment, I have 'select ignores fixed items' turned off (because of the earlier issue I mentioned).
However, I do have 'Don't ask about moving fixed items' turned on (because that is the option I prefer).

However, I've found that with this option ticked, the ref name text (J1 etc) is not moveable unless the whole item is un-fixed. This is rather awkward, as I often want to move the silkscreen reference without moving the component itself.

I guess this is all part & parcel of what you described before, but I just thought I'd let you know of this particular issue.
