When I look at the 3D view of a PCB design, the pads I added do not show any holes. I only see their copper, and the board has not been cut away within them. How can I fix this?

I think this is a limitation on the EPC 3D Viewer. All my PTH and mounting holes, plated thru or not appear with a copper/laminate fill too.
......unless someone has come across some obscure setting buried deeply in some menu?
3D Viewer Settings =>Settings, "Drill Holes" & "Only drilled-out holes" tick boxes seem to have no effect.

If you go to View, 3D Settings, on the Settings page you should find a checkbox for Drill Holes. Tick that, and the picture is drawn with holes punched through the pad lands and substrate.

Note that due to the way that shapes with holes must be tesselated before drawing, enabling drill holes does mean that your 3D drawing will have some fuzzy/dotted lines where the edges/faces of adjacent elements of the board butt up against each other. This issue is proving tricky to resolve, so at the moment the choice is yours whether to use it or not.

David.

David,-
As I stated in my earlier post,-

"If you go to View, 3D Settings, on the Settings page you should find a checkbox for Drill Holes. Tick that, and the picture is drawn with holes punched through the pad lands and substrate."

doesn't resolve the issue for me (running 20.0.4)

Thanks. If I select 'Drill Holes', and deselect 'Only drilled-out', then the drill holes are removed... but then I get a mess of green circles on the bottom left, away from the board. I took a screenshot but I can't find an option to include it in this message.

Sounds like something data-specific in both previous posts, if you can email relevant data to support@numberone.com we can investigate further. Not much comfort to you I guess but I'm not seeing either of those issues on my system.

David.

Hi David,
Just for info,-
Looking at some of my other pcb designs, I can remove the inner copper & laminate from mounting holes as long as they are not plated thru. Plated thru mounting holes, some component pads (even within the same component, but not consistent in same design!) and all vias still show copper & laminate in the hole.
