I am trying to add a couple of inner powerplanes to my design, but struggling.

Currently a standard double sided design.

Using the Design Technology to edit the layers.

When I add the first one, and set it to the correct parameters for the layer, I get a message

Layer "Inner 1" is incorrectly positioned above layer "Bottom Silk" in the layer order. Please review.

Well it isn't incorrectly above it, as the bottom silk is the lowest. I don't need the bottom silk, so can delete that one.

But when I insert the next powerplane layer, I get the same message again, but the layer is above Bottom Copper.

Again the layers are exactly where I want them to be.

I can't do anything else apart from cancel, And I can't move the last added layer up or down in order either.

Am I missing something simple?

I can confirm the issue has been sorted

I have emailed support, since everyone confirms it is a bug.

OK, I see what is going on now. When you add a layer the grid on screen updates correctly, but the internal data structure in the program doesn't.

When a layer is added, all layers below it have to be moved down one in the array but only the Name and Colour get moved down. The layers end up with whatever Type, Side, Usage and Bias the previous layer in that slot had. Going into the edit window causes the array to be read and shows the incorrect values, resetting them and exiting writes them back correctly. You have to do this for every layer below the one added, which is rather tedious!

The programmer responsible is an idoit. This sort of careless bug (and not bothering to test properly after making changes) is becoming the norm for EasyPC unfortunately, if management don't start sorting it out then it is likely to hit the bottom line hard. I am sure many potential buyers have a look in the forums before making the purchasing decision, and the impression they will get is not good.

It doesn't matter what 'side' I set the new layers to, it won't allow me to add them.

I now get the error from unrelated (to the new one) layers (eg bottom copper and silk, or bottom copper and dimensions

Yes dave i know what you mean they are unrelated but something in the program is changing these unrelated settings so until you put them back to there previous state (before you added youre new layer) they
will not go away !!]

Thanks to both.

skieasy, not sure exactly what you are suggesting here.

I tried to fool it by exporting the layers to csv, editing the csv then reimporting, but no better.

It is just the layer check causing the issue, because now after editing it tells me that the bottom copper can't be above the bottom silk, so I swap those layers around and then get the message that the bottom silk can't be above the copper bottom.

Grrr.

there are two ways to change the side for a layer

either double click on the layer in the 'side' column or select the layer line and click the edit tab

you'll find they show a diffent side when this error show up

reset the side using the edit tab and all's ok

==================

Try again

settings - design technology - layers - side , sometimes not matching

settings - design technology - layers - side - edit - side

make the edit entry the same and all is well

just a shame we have to !!!!!

No, this is yet another V16 bug. I have had a similar problem when trying to add a top paste layer. I then get the same message as you, but referring to a top side layer that was already in the design.

I gave up in the end, the deadline was looming and I could get away without the paste layer for the prortotype.
