I am currently designing a multi channel unit (16) and to save from hours of drawing schematics and art working to get the PCB channels to look the same, the simple thing to do is draw one channel and then artwork it, then simply duplicate it 16 times, This works fine so far however the project is in very early stages and if i make one change to the schematic, by forwarding the design changes i lose all of the duplicated channels!
So.... Is there simple way that i can fix the duplicates so they are ignored for the future?

I'm not sure I understand what you are doing. Are you only creating 1 channel in the schematic and then duplicating it on the PCB?
If so, and you are using V16 or greater, the way to do it is to duplicate it at the schematic stage and then use the "Apply Layout Pattern" function in the PCB.

This is what you'd expect to happen when you Forward Design Change.
Maybe a case for hierarchical design philosophy?
If it's a simple mod, do it manually, -but you've lost all design integrity by just duplicating the pcb artwork. |

Your schematic and artwork must always be in sync. So for multiple channels you should also duplicate them in the schematic and the pcb editor. You can do this very easily using groups. In your schematic create the first channel as a group, then duplicate this group for your other channels. Then translate to pcb. Then in the pcb layout editor do the layout for the first group and then use the apply layout pattern tool for the other groups on by one. You may need to do a little bit of editing but its a lot easier than doing them one by one. This way your schematic is always in sync with your pcb as it should be. Any changes to your schematic will forward to your pcb ok.

| Thanks guys, i think i have managed to do the groups method, i thought there must be a easier way, However this afternoon the program locked up and i had to close it, however now i cant get the project to open again, it just crashes every time i try to open the PCB artwork?? i have tried the backup files and same thing, i can open older projects which is making me think the file has corrupted!! thoughts ??? |

Try ringing support, they have fixed corrupted files for me before.
