Is it possible to import a DXF like a board edge made in another program and make this the copper pour area? I do this for odd board shapes that I can change to a routed layer for manufacture.

Often we have odd shaped boards and the copper pour gets routed over, not a problem but the issue is checking connectivity of poured copper when the connection bit gets routed away.

I can make the shape a filled ground layer but his fills over other nets.....

I don't quite follow the description of what you are trying to do, but this command might help: Select any shape then right-click, the popup menu should include 'Change Shape Type'. If the shape is a closed shape, the list should include 'Copper Pour Area'.
