I have had problems for some time with symbols and components going missing in my user libraries.
It seems that the .cmx .psx .ssx .cmx files incorrectly list a reduced number of parts in the libraries which then appear to vanish from the libraries. This only seems to happen with Easy-PC installed under a copy of Windows 7 (64bit) running under Virtualbox on my Linux machine. I have also installed EPC under Wine on the same machine and the corruption then does not happen.

My workaround is to delete the *.??x files after having accessed the libraries in the Windows installation which then rebuild after running EPC under Wine.

I would run EPC under Wine all the time but the pdf output isn't quite right, some fonts are still incorrectly sized, although Wine is improving.

Here are some figures for the number of symbols in my library files after a Windows 7 library access:
File1.cml - 147 symbols
File2.cml - 128 symbols
File1.psl - 129 symbols

After deleting and rebuilding the *.??x files under Wine:
File1.cml - 162 symbols
File2.cml - 143 symbols
File1.psl - 282 symbols <-- particularly bad

Is this a known problem?

John

John,

This isn't a known problem. The index files are generated by reading the contents of each library whenever the library is updated, so it is hard to see why you would only be getting some of each library listed in the index.

Then again, running Easy-PC on this type of 'layered' virtual environment is not really a supported platform, and you have already discovered that the results are different under Wine, so it is hard to point the finger of blame at Easy-PC itself.

Sorry I can't be more positive.

David.

Thanks David,

yes, I realise the way it works.
EPC runs pretty well in Wine which to my mind points to a Win7 problem.
I would be surprised if it is a problem with the virtual environment and anyway that is becoming a more common way of running Windows anyway.

I will check how it performs in a 'standard' install of Win 7 64bit that I also have on the PC and report back.

It is rather tedious having to work around this problem, but also scary as I am worried about corrupting my valuable library files. I don't know if there are any limits on the number of symbols you can have in a library, or is there a limit on library file size?

John

I can confirm there is a problem using a standard install on Windows 7 64bit OS.
Perhaps I need to send you the normal/truncated *.??x files and my libraries in case there is something peculiar to them?

I would appreciate a reply, as this problem is reproducible. Should I send in my library files, and to whom?

John

best thing to do in this situation - as with all 'genuine' problems with the software - is to email the full details and all associated data files to support@numberone.com and we will attend to it.

Whilst the forum is definitely useful for asking questions, particularly outside of our normal office hours, it is not really our normal channel for providing direct technical support for actual program issues.

Hope this makes sense!
David.
