Is there any way to join pads in a footprint without generating an error.

Er No!
The Net class on the component editor is what I have named the same for joining pads
I have 80 items do I have to name each and every pad in Layout?

You can join multiple pads to one schematic pin in the component editor by entering eg ... 1+2+3 or 1,2,3,
So for instance Terminal 12 on the schematic symbol coul be connected to pads 1 2 and 3 of the pcb footprint.
