Came across this whilst browsing
www.accelerated-designs.com
I contacted them to find out if they had any plans to support EasyPC, and got a reply saying that they would be interested but would need the support on Numberone to acheive this.
What do you think .... would this go some way to easily creating new components, transfer and sharing of components etc etc ?
Iain
It seems that the stripped down version of EasyPC (designspark) already has this support !!! .... Come on number one .... What is going on ????

Hi Iain. I'm very nervous about sharing libraries. If I sign off a project, I'm 100% responsible for that design, and saying that XYZ Company created that component for me is not an excuse for a possible design flaw. I tend to verify every single component package in a design, as (you know) it is all too easy for Easy PC to inadvertently pick up the wrong package.... But that is what you have been saying for some time now, and little has been done to stop this happening. If XYZ Company is prepared to stand by their responsibilities to guarantee corrrectness then I'm with you.
According to Hodali, DesignSpark also supports advanced CAD format imports too, so what exactly are we paying No.1 for, ..... they haven't even fixed V14 bugs in V15 yet? |

Hi Ed,
I totally agree with your comments, however as far as using third party component libraries .... I always double check components before submitting a design, I don't think you can accept any component without checking. What the Ultra Libraian allows you to do is import libraries from other cad systems which elimnates the need to create your own component and save a bit of time, but you would still check it !.
I think we need a statement from NumberOne regarding Designspark vs EasyPC, otherwise what the hell are we paying for?.... I took this up with them a while back but never got any answer !
So .... Come on NumberOne .... whats the story ????
Iain
PS ... I cannot find these cad import utilities ????? |

Hi Iain,
I read in Electronics Weekly (7-13 Sept2011, Page 3), and I quote,-
"Free schematics for PCBs RS Components has teamed up with design tool firm Accelerated Designs to introduce a series of component libraries providing schematic symbols and PCB design footprints for chips from STMicroelectronics and Microchip Technology. The PCB footprints and schematic symbols can be downloaded free from the distributer's DesignSpark website, and can be exported to EDA tools using Accelerated's translator software".
Perhaps we might be offered this feature when we upgrade to V16 next year? Peter, David are you still out there, -what's going on? |

Ed .... thais can be offered NOW !! ... its not a mod Numberone need to do.... its Accerlerated Designs that provide the support for the EasyPC tool. They have already done this for Designspark (which is simply EasyPC), so all they need is some info from Numberone to allow them to do the same for EasyPC. They actually contacted me and asked for EasyPC's contact details.
So this is something that could happen before the next revision if Numberone play ball !

Easy-PC has an Eagle importer as standard, and the files that the Accelerated Designs tool is exporting for DesignSpark is essentially the same format as our Eagle importer expects to read. So this should give you a source of library data for Easy-PC if you want to go that route, there is nothing 'special' that we need to do to Easy-PC to enable this.

Is there any chance that Number One could actually publish the spec of the ASCII Eagle import format so that anyone can write converters to get symbols into EasyPC?
I understand that tool vendors have an interest in keeping their design data in their tool to prevent customers straying, but surely it is in EasyPC's interest to make component import from other tools as easy as possible?
