I have several old circuits I need to get printed again, but I can't get the Gerber files to show pads on just the bottom layer and vias on both top and bottom.

Individual pads will let me change their layer, but components such as DIL sockets won't.

We have Easy PC for Windows version 6, plus an old DOS versions.

No, you won't be able to do that, as the pads in the component will be defined as [All] layer so they'll appear on all layers whatever you do.

There's a sneaky workaround which may help as long as you only do it in the design. Work your way through the pad styles (but NOT the ones used for vias), setting them all to round size zero, but adding a pad exception for the bottom copper layer defining the original size and shape. Effectively that will hide them on the other layers.

V6 is now 8 years old. It will be OK on XP, but you'll have to update it if you're forced to a newer operating system.

Thanks, that works fine. I added an exception for the top layer to round and zero. Luckily the designer had used style 0 for vias only.

When I get so free time I'll take a look at the latest version, but for now I'm sticking with XP so 6 should be fine. Unfortunately the last electronics engineer also used Eagle, so I have two programs to learn how to use. I refuse to touch any of our track tape designs though ;o)
