I'm having trouble creating a BOM. I'd like the output to be as per the 'Collating Columns' subsection of the 'Custom Reports' section in the help, i.e. a list of reference designators for each entry.
The help suggests that setup will produce one row in the report for each component + value combination, and by ticking the 'Collate This Column' for the ref names you can get a list of ref names for each entry.
However, I'm getting only some of the components being listed this way, others produce single line entries. For example, what I want is something like this:
Component Value Name Qty
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
10uF_16V_10%_Tant_Case_C 1uF C93 1
10uF_16V_10%_Tant_Case_C 10uF C69 C52 C6 C98 C64 C38 C61 C50 11
C59 C51 C49
What I actually get is something like this:
Component Value Name Qty
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
10uF_16V_10%_Tant_Case_C 1uF C93 1
10uF_16V_10%_Tant_Case_C 10uF C69 1
10uF_16V_10%_Tant_Case_C 10uF C52 1
10uF_16V_10%_Tant_Case_C 10uF C6 C98 C64 C38 C61 C50 C59 C51 9
C49
I've tried to isolate (by turning on and off collating columns) what is causing EasyPC to think that the combination of Component and Value for C69 and C52 are not the same as, for example, C6. It looks like the value field is seen as different, even though they are the same. I've even cut and pasted the offending components in the schematic to try to make them identical except reference name.
Any idea what might be going on? Thanks!

Sounds like the easiest thing might be to send in an example PCB and your report file (the .RFT file) so we can investigate further. |

Thanks, I sent a .sch file and the .csv output to Peter yesterday, there is no .rft file that I can find. I wait with interest whether you can generate a correctly collated output from it.
Can others confirm that they can output BOMs with collated reference designators as per the help file with V14? It is probably finger trouble my end, or some difference in my configuration. A pity I can't add attachments though.

You can find the location for your RFT files as follows: Output, Reports, Options, the folder is listed on the Report Options dialog.

Have you checked that all the fields are identical.
for example if you also have a field called rating and one is 50V and the others are 100V then these are quite rightly picked up as separate components.

I cut and pasted the two components in the schematic (and did it again to be sure). As far as I am aware all fields should then be identical.
This raises an interesting question. It's the component + value combination that is used to determine uniqueness. Since you can add many user 'value' fields, do all of them have to be the same?
I haven't heard from Peter about the .sch file I sent him yet. |

I am also having problems here ..... I can get all my identical R's and C's to group together on the BOM output BUT all the identical I.C's are on seperate lines ....... strange this is it use to be ok (I think) not sure what I have changed but I cannot get what I want. Also if you tick certain columns to "collate" , EasyPC freezes and you need to abort the app, re-start and un-tick !!

V15.0.4 and I've just spent hours trying to get a tidy detailed collated print out of a BOM. Do the various "switches" esp. collate this column have any effect that anyone expects? Getting all sorts of weird effects, as markp and Iain describe. I don't recall having a problem with this feature before in earlier releases? |

I think this is maybe a candidate for a better interface in v16.
Even when it did work, it was never the easiest thing to setup.
I have already started a thread for V16, I wil add a request there.

Currently I have a report which does mostly what I want.
But I think every field has to be identical. so if a comment is added to any component then it is seen as different. I would guess even a space would cause a problem. This would be difficult to spot. Updating all components without keeping existing attributes ticked may help.
I would however like a way of doing variants to the build. I will suggest this in the V16 thread |
