When I add a new signal track to a PCB it always defaults to the signal minimum track width. Similarly a new power track defaults to power minimum width. Am I missing something, or is there a setting to default to the nominal widths?
As another issue, when I create or edit a PCB symbol it defaults to a colour where both the background and the silk screen legend are black! Every time I have to View/Display/Load my default colour file. Any suggestions how I can overcome this?

The default track style used can be checked with [Settings], [Design Technology]. On the 'Net Classes' tab the style under 'Nom.Track' for the net class that the track will belong to is the width to be used. If the pcb is being laid out 'on the fly' so the net class isn't defined by the schematic, then it will use the net class defined on the 'Nets' tab under [Settings], [Defaults].
However, this can all be overriden by setting the check box on the 'PCB Tracks' tab in [Settings], [Preferences] for 'Don't use Track and Via Styles from the Net Class'. If this is checked, the track style on the 'Tracks' tab under [Settings], [Defaults] is used instead. This default value is updated automatically whenever the track style is changed in 'Add Track' mode (note - NOT 'Edit Track'), so the most recently used style will always be the one offered.
Now, the colours. These are determined by the current technology file. Go to [File], [Libraries], look at the 'PCB Symbol' tab and click on [Tech. Files]. The technology file listed there is the one with the faulty colours. Use the [Open] button to open it, apply your preferred colours, then [File], [Save] to save the changes. Next time you open a pcb symbol, the right colours should appear. |

Thanks for that. I knew there had to be ways to do it, but I don't think I'd have ever solved the colour one without guidance!
