When I manually route a path segment, and insert a via by selecting a different layer in the middle a the path route the path appears to be connected between the start and end pad but the rubber band does not dissapear and th eDRC sees it as a dangling path.

How do I get this to route properly?

I think that what you'll need to do is turn on Dynamic Optimise in the preferences section.
HTH.

Best wishes,
Olga.

You've got two issues here, the connection being left, and the 'Dangling Track' report.

Redundant connections can be cleared up by using [Tools], [Optimise Nets], [All Nets]. Any left after this really are needed.

Dangling tracks indicate that one or both ends of a track haven't connected properly, even if they appear to have done so. There's a highlight option under [View], [Display], which can help, and running a connectivity check report will give precise co-ordinates of breaks.
