As far as the Zoom and Pan controls go I think the following
would benifit the app too:
1. A pan factor would be nice. At the present setting the mouse resolution seems to be pretty tight, small mouse movments make the screen move in large moves
2. Add Zoom Fit, Zoom Frame to the right click short cut menu
3. Add a function like Ctrl + wheel scroll to pan left / right
and Shift + Wheel Scroll to pan up and down this is a nice feature when laying out the PCB and you are in the middle of laying a track down.

1) We're using the same mouse resolution for pan as for normal mouse movements. The only difference is that when you click on the wheel, the cursor is fixed and the drawing panned under it. Do I understand from your comment that you normally find the mouse movement too fast as well?
2) There's a fast shortcut key for both of these. Zoom to fit is <A> (think zoom all), and (not so intuitive) <Ctrl+F> lets you draw a frame for zooming. There just aren't any single key presses left for this function, but it tends to be used less than the other anyway.
In principle, there's no reason why we shouldn't add these to the right click menu, except that it's already getting quite busy, and it makes it just a bit harder to find other more important functions quickly.
The ethos behind the program is that you've got two hands, and it's often more efficient to use the keyboard in combination with the mouse, as well as carrying less risk of physical stress disorders.
3) Is this feature intended to constrain the pan to one direction when either <Shift> or <Ctrl> are held down? That's the way I understand it.

I think the pan and mouse wheel zoom react to fast.
Small pan movements move the mouse clear across the drawing
and one mouse wheel position movement has you zoomed in so
fast that you tend to lose track of where you are.
As far as mouse cursor movements that works fine, it has a good
linear movement.
If we could have the option to customize the right click short cut menu and adjust the pan and zoom factor I would have no more complaints, until the next release :)
