I've been using EPC for many years and if I wanted to place a component on the bottom side I have always used the flip command (f key). In V28 when I do this the pads move to the bottom, but the silkscreen stays on the top.
G/Day Mike. I have come across this phenomena a few times in the past.In my cases it was due to no Bottom Silk Screen layer being specified in the stack build up (Design Tech). Rather than not displaying the (bottom) silk screen, EPC appears to place it on the Top Silk Screen layer instead. (I'm not sure whether it appears on the Top Silk Gerbers or not, - I didn't go that far!). Hope this solves your issue. Regards, Ed.
If it is the only component/detail on the Bottom Silk, you could go to Properties =>Component=> Suppress Components and tick "Plotting Shapes". This will inhibit the flipped component's silk screen being plotted. The Bottom Silk Screen gerber will then be "blank" even if it is plotted.
