Hi, Since Windows 7, the operating system has been readily available as a 64bit OS, and has compatibility with 32bit programs.
Therefore, how many people are running 32bit OS's (Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10) ???
I would expect most are running 64bit OS's.
My proposal to Number One is to implement Easy-PC as a 64bit compiled program, as per a roadmap, to allow people to become aware.
If everyone is running 64bit windows, then there is no need to implement Easy-PC as a 32bit compiled program.
The reason for this is - Microsoft keep on deploying patches which cause issues or BSOD for Windows 10. Windows 8/8.1 will be out of support soon - and Microsoft's QA will not change - so people may then migrate to Linux.
Many other programs are compiled as 64bit - so using Wine on Linux (64bit implementation) allows the programs to run seamlessly (except Easy-PC).
Easy-PC moving to a 64bit architecture would stop it working on 32bit Windows OS's, and will stop any new customers from running it if they have a 32bit OS (unless they use a VM).
So there are downsides to moving to a 64bit architecture for Easy-PC.
Regards, Shadders. |
