Hello, Often I receive board designs in the DXF format with the traces already ran. You can import from the DXF as a shape, board, or area. Shapes seems to make the most sense. When I import the design I get an outline of the shape which I don't seem to be able to do much with except to trace over them like a child. Is there any way to change these shapes into a track? What if I leave them as a shape? Will they be understood by the board house to be a track or maybe I will run into issues with connecting them to via's and pads?
Hodali, I understand that, what he is asking is that after he imports the dxf if the result will be ok for manufacture. For manufacture you would create gerbers from the import.
So what I am saying is he needs to look at the resultant gerbers.
Thanks for the replies. If I export the gerbers they are in fact fine and if the design was finished I could send them for manufacturing without an issue. The problem I'm having is that I need to modify the design based on the DXF and then re-export the files back to a coworker who performs an electrical simulation on the design. This can go back and forth a few times. The filled shapes and the traces behave differently when he attempts to import them. I've played around with the export settings but cannot get both to act in the same way with the same export settings.
The tracks are connected as a whole object but the shapes are line segments and do not import into the simulation software. I can change the export settings (lines are set to solids vs hollow) and the shapes are now connected into one entity but the tracks now show up as a thin line. I'm still working on how to correct this.
