 deleting parts without deleting traces

This is very annoying: when a part is deleted on a pcb design, the trace connected to it is also deleted. How can that be prevented? It also happens in the schematic capture.

Disconnecting part from net worked! Thanks for the prompt reply, that saved me much time.

I'll also look into the schematic preferences.

This is relatively simple to solve

Select Part
right click mouse
Disconnect from net

Then delete, it should leave the trace behind.

Go to the Setting Preferences (in Schematic only) and untick the relevant boxes in the "Delete" section. Doesn't overcome pcb layout though.
