I have designed a circular board on which I intend to add a copper pour over the whole surface surrounding the tracks.
This copper pour is of course covered with solder resist.

I also want a bright copper ring on the outside few mm of the board, i.e. without solder resist coverage, but to be part of the copper pour layer. I have read that a resist layer can be added (and I assume edited), but don't know how to do this or whether this is the best option to achieve my goal?

Thanks David, that's interesting. I didn't have specific paste/resist layers, but have added them. That's very helpful indeed and saves a lot of time checking Gerber files to see what I've designed... I'll try adding the mask ring, and will work like this in future. Why not add these layers by default, it's very useful IMHO?

John,

If you have explicit paste/resist layers in your design, then you just need to add the required shape(s) onto the resist layer. Anything on that layer will then form a 'window' in the resist because the plot you generate for resist layers is effectively a 'negative'.

If instead you produce your resist using the 'pads only plot' feature of the Plotting dialog, then you are rather stuck, the resist layer won't then be present in the design so you won't be able to add shapes to it.
