Hi,

I have run a DRC and i am obtaining a number of Possible Malformed Powerplane/Copper Shape at (coords).

I can see the C-V error markers, but the SMD PAD and copper fill shape look ok with the limits set in the technology file.

Does anyone know why this error is appearing if the layout and copper fill looks ok ?. Thanks.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi David,

I have run the check again, and the C-V error seems to be based on existing PADS of SM devices and Vias. That is the C-V error centre is generally on PADS and VIAs, not the copper fill area, or between Copper Fill area and track/SMD PAD/Via.

I will try to replicate with a small design to see what is occuring, and send across.

Thanks and regards,

Richard.

Iain is right about what the check is for.

I am wondering if the check is being a little over-zealous and flagging an issue in your particular design when it shouldn't be.

The only way for us to be sure is if you could email the design to support and we'll take a look, and fix the code if necessary.

This is anew feature in V14. I think its is to overcome a problem that caused a gerber generation error in previous version where a via which should have passed through a copper plane actually got attached to it causing a short !.

I have also run this test to get errors on previous designs that and everthing appears to be ok so I wouldn't worry .... but I would like to here Numberones opinion on this ?
