Posted - 30 Apr 2009 : 17:51:41 Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have different pad sizes and shapes on different layers?
I made a BGA pattern up which need a very small pad on the top layer but with standard via size pads below.
I had to enlist the help of my PCB manufacturer to change the top pad of a via to a smaller one as I could not see how to do it within the EASY PC program. As far as I can see that using the pad style execption button it will only change ALL the pads at that location of a component.
Can anyone advise on this issue?
Many thanks,
Boris

Once you have created the necessary pad style that contains the 'by layer' exceptions you need, you can go to the Properties of a component pad in the design, tick the 'Pad Style Exception' checkbox, and choose your new style to apply to just that pad.

Of course all pads of that style in the design will change. However if you create a different style and apply to any individual pad (I think!)

Posted - 21 Sep 2010 : 11:27:15 Hi Iain, I bring this up again for it doesn't seem to work, plus do I assume it will change all the pads of that name in the design whether they be within a component or free placed? I have the need to have a different pad on each layer and in one instance to have no pad on a particular layer. I have a component which I need to change some of the pad stacks to have pads of different sizes on each layer yet leave the others alone. Is it possible to have a mixture in one component like this? I don't particularly want to make up a specific component to suit this requirement, I just want to modify individual pads within a standard part. There does not seem to be any information in the help file on this issue. Please be quite specific on the actions necessary to achieve this request as I am not that well up on all the 'ins and outs' of the software. Many thanks,

If you go to the pad table in design tthe design technology you can create a pad with exceptions on any layers
