Posted - 02 Apr 2009 : 16:01:20 Hi, I've just upgraded to version 12 - I'm having a few problems: 1) What's happened to the "smooth tracks" entry on the short-cut menu? 2) My old designs / new library shapes are opening with a precision of 0 which is OK for thou but it should be 2 for mm. The technology file has a precision of 2! 3) Several old designs have what I thought were on-grid straight lines (schematics) or tracks (pcb) but are now "staircases" or off-grid. 4) I've had a crash while moving a group of lines with the cursor keys in the schematic library editor. 5) has the click select distance changed for objects? Text seems to be selected in preference to any other objects and once an object is selected and then clicked and held I often reselect something else rather than move it. Shouldn't a selected item have preference when clicked again? Has anyone experienced these problems? Thanks Al |

2) By an oversight, most of the technology files shipped with 12.0 had their metric precision set to zero - which wasn't noticed as they were defaulting to imperial. That's now been corrected but obviously any legacy tech. files on users systems will also need to be corrected. Combine this with a new feature in V12 which means that units and precision are now saved with symbols in the library, and you have an even more confusing situation where V11 and earlier symbols pick it up from the tech file as the information isn't present in the symbol, but V12 symbols use their own, so it's not a level playing field, but also not obviously so either.
3) The only report of this that we've had is inaccurate display, cured by refreshing the display. There's no known problem with items previously on grid moving off it. There was a problem where using the cursor keys could cause the mouse to lose snap, but that's sorted now. Check the precision with these designs in case rounding errors are giving misleading results.
4) Is this repeatable? There's not a lot can be done about it unless it can be reproduced.
5) No, the click select distance hasn't changed, but it's not fixed. To reduce it, zoom in closer. The program does remember the last structure type selected, and will give preference to that, but if the cursor has moved, and there's a different type closer to the current cursor position, it will select the alternative (especially if it's the same type). If you've got a small design, use 'Best Fit' on the working area, as it will optimise the available zoom, so you can get in closer.

Posted - 03 Apr 2009 : 10:33:47 Hi Al,
I've certainly experienced 2), and mentioned it to Peter. I don't remember what the outcome of it was, but I think it had something to do with the library editor not picking up on the technology files.
Maybe it'll be sorted out in the next upgrade, as it's certainly quite an annoying issue!
Best wishes, Olga. |
