Hi

I am in the process of adding a height value to all of the components in my EZ PC libraries so as to use the fine IDF export to 3D cad functionality.

I have many parts and may be some time.

I also note that the only way I will be able to get the new height attribute into my design from the libraries is to use the update component functionality.

Currently (as far as I'm aware) the act of forcing the update will reset and reposition the component value strings on my schematics. The update options being

1. Only update item if version in lib different
2. Keep existing component attributes.

I think a new trivial option should exist.

3. Update attributes but leave value (and refdes) positions unchanged.

I have 20 off A2 schematics to update wilth a total of 800 components so I'm not exactly looking forward to having to spend a couple of days making my schematics look nice after the update

If adding an extra tick box is too involved then please give some thought to making 3 the default behviour for existing function 2.

I'm sure most users would prefer option 3 in the vast majority of cases. The odd component which might not benefit from this treatment can easily be deleted and re-added to restore default lib text placement.

An easy fix - I would have thought and a serious improvement in prodcutivity.

I agree with you guys. That is one of the more aggravating "features" of Easy-PC schematic entry. If I update a component I have to go back and fix all the reference and value positions that get shifted back to their original positions. I wouldn't have moved them if the original positions were what I wanted.

I think option 3 would be the way to go.
