I am creating a schematic that will cover 2 sheets. I have created a project and added sheet 1 to the project. I also added sheet 2 to the project. Sheet 1 is complete except I need to make 10 connections from an IC on sheet 1 to individual components on sheet 2. I can't figure out how to do that. I am using Version 11.0.6.
I tried assigning a net name to the IC pins on sheet 1 and then assigning the same net name to the component pins on sheet 2. When I run "Translate to PCB", the parts on sheet 2 do not show up as being connected to the IC pins on sheet 1.
There is not enough information in the user manual or the online help to explain how to do this. Also, when I click a component end and select "Add to Net" on sheet 2, I do not see the net names from sheet 1. Maybe this is normal?
The projects in the Examples folder all have only 1 schematic sheet so they are of no help in determing the proper method of connecting components together on different schematic sheets.

Peter,
Renaming the nets in question to names like DB0, BAT, S1, etc worked. The nets now show up on both sheets and when I generate a PCB the parts are connected. |

Net names in the standard automatically created format (Nxxxx) are local to a single schematic. All others are global to the project, so nets like Gnd, 0V, Vcc, input, etc. will all link between sheets seamlessly. As each sheet is self contained, only the nets currently in use in that sheet appear in it, but that doesn't stop the cross-sheet linkage working.
You don't say, but I suspect that the nets that don't link are auto-numbered ones. If you look at them in the pcb, they'll have gained a suffix to show to which schematic they apply, and to keep them unique. |
