Posted - 17 Oct 2014 : 06:26:59 Hi My version of Easy PC V18.0 keeps crashing on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Only happened since I tried to go into dual monitor mode and I was trying to open two schematics from different projects. Also unable to run patch: epcpatch 1802 already on my PC. What happens is that the patch program is unable to access Appver.dll.zip Anybody out there, that can offer assistance? Regards Mark (bendi) |

Posted - 17 Oct 2014 : 12:39:04 Hi All Re Easy PC V18.0 crashing and installation of patch. Success. To install patch, run as Administrator and make sure EPC program is off: does work. Also crash problem eliminated. Regards Mark (Bendi) |

Posted - 17 Oct 2014 : 10:20:55 Hi David,
Reason for not reporting yet is that I don't want the developers trying to find the issue, wasting their time and ending up with the 'not found' response. So, as I say, when I can reproduce on demand, I'll report with step by step instructions.
The misalignment is not the one fixed in 18.0.1 (I reported that one too). This one shows when you place a couple of components (snap to grid) then connect two pins with a horizontal connection (never shows with vertical connections!). The connection then has a small step along the connection which is evident when you zoom out (1 pixel step seen). When you try and move the connection it behaves like its made of two segments. Moving one of the components, then moving it back (so it re-snaps to grid in the original location) sorts the connection out and it becomes a single straight segment ... add another connection and repeat.
I'll get a few screen grabs or screen video and post with the bug report. |

On the issue with appver.dll, I wonder if the patch is being run in admin mode? Usually the patch program will elevate itself to admin privilege, but occasionally it is necessary to right-click and 'run as administrator'.
The only other cause I've seen is a very occasional instance where the application has not fully closed down, so the Task Manager is still showing a process for epcwin.exe in its list.

The point about reporting the problems is well made. None of us are happy to see faults in the software, but if we don't know about them then we can't fix them. If you can reproduce a fault, then please do report it via the support mailbox along with relevant data and instructions.
I don't know which build of v18 is being used, but the issue with 'fine misalignments' in schematic sounds very much like a grid snap issue we resolved in patch 18.0.1. If it isn't, then the above point applies; once we know about a problem and can reproduce it here, its more likely to get fixed.
Dual screen operation has been problematic in a few isolated cases, and we've had various reports of issues with things like Forward Design Changes not operating properly. Unfortunately - despite being supplied with good data and information - these have never been reproducible on any of our systems here, which of course makes resolving the issues somewhat difficult. We haven't given up trying though.

Posted - 17 Oct 2014 : 08:58:03 Dual Screen Mode has always been unstable ever since its introduction. I completely stopped using it in V17. There's no indication that its been improved in V18.
Now that the initial V18 "bugs" have been sorted out, I'm finding V18 very stable and I've not noticed the issues raised by Simon above. Win7/64 Pro. |

Posted - 17 Oct 2014 : 08:47:25 Not had crashes with dual monitor support yet, but I have seen a lot of crashes when creating components with the wizard and when doing basic schematic and PCB editing.
I'm also getting lots of 'fine' misalignments (i.e. application inserted steps) in schematic connections that were not in previous versions, which is very annoying (looks like the connections/components are not being placed precisely on the grid, i.e. rounding errors in the application) ...
... plus the star point 'overlayed pads' function always fails DRC (even after reading the doco several times and trying to get it to work !)
All will be reported as official bugs to NumberOne once I can reproduce them at will.
