Well its here, and I for one think the new additions are good. The head-up display in editing is going to be a big improvement especially for us working on high speed stuff, as is the stitching vias .... that will be very handy.
Removal if some of these little niggling DRC errors will also be nice.
The BGA fanout is also a great new tool, anyone who has had to do that manually will know that.
All in all I personally think this is a good upgrade and considering the cost and the continuing support, I have already ordered my copy !

It seems that Number One System implemented some features which I suggested a few months ago. Easy-PC comes with variants and track length display for single tracks. Apply Vias (PCB) feature is also useful for RF design

Nope .... If it had been made for me the library structure would have been overhauled

Ed ... I have used the intelligent gerber import on many ocassions and although you need to fiddle with the settings a bit it does seem to be ok. I have never had any problems with pad shapes not importing.

Hanspeter, read the advertising blurb,-

".....the new features included in Version 17, just some of over 20 new developments, most of which have been implemented at the direct request of our existing customers....."

The list of "nice-to-haves" we users created before V16 has been largely ignored. The new features of V17 hardly deserve a new release in my opinion.

If EPC want repeat subscriptions for technical features, they will have to try harder, -like improving the rather iffy "Intelligent" Gerber Import add-on feature that can't import square/rectangular pads.

However, EPC is a very good product, and the excellent tech support for £59/pa is the only reason I'll be upgrading.

Sure! Looks like this version wasn't made for me too!

I believe the development team isn't reading numerous request

...And for this reason I will not be investing in V17. and I am out.

Paste Again. (schematic & PCB editors)

It seems to me that this only works on text items.

I cannot paste again components or paste again pcbs into a panels etc. This new feature seems pretty pointless to me or am I doing something wrong?

This would be a significant improvement for me. My projects are so small that I use EPC to correlate the whole project, including mechanical, packaging and labour. I use a "Misc" schematic only component for holding this data. At the moment I have to export a minimum of 2 sets of reports an manually merge them.

Talking of DRC errors, does Version 17, by any chance, have a "Delete All Dangling Tracks" feature?

They seem to be a particular problem when mixing both imperial and metric footprints, as a lot of pads go off grid, and I find the process of removing them rather tedious.

Yes, but I'm one of those people that hate loose ends and any DRC errors drive me nuts.

Doesn't look like it was made for me, either. Assemply Variants sounded great, but it turns out that it only supports fit/no fit and not different values.

Still no way to view all component values in a multi sheet project, except in the PCB editor. The keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste are still broken in the Component Values window too. And 'Document Name First in Window Caption' still doesn't work. Haven't tried all the other broken stuff yet.

I would be happy to pay for an upgrade with no new features at all, as long as it sorted out all the broken stuff, untidiness of some parts of the program and stopped crashing whenever I am up against a deadline.

Looks like this version wasn't made for me. Vias in pads is the only new feature that I would use.

Even though the upgrade price is very good, I don't have an immediate urge to do it for that one feature, especially since I'm pretty much done with my current designs for about 6 months.

David,

No problem ...

Iain,

That doesn't sound right, we will get someone to investigate.

Can I also suggest that anything like this that may look like a bug gets pushed through our support email channel as normal, otherwise I suspect they may get lost, missed or tangled up in the thread of general talk about the new version.

Replicate and Paste Again will indeed do similar things, but the latter doesn't require you to work out exact step sizes to enter into the dialog. It is useful for example when used in conjunction with the arrow keys to place a row of the same item(s) a given number of grid steps apart.

What's the difference in the new "Paste Again for repeated copies at regular offset" feature and the old Replicate"?
Iain Wilkie Posted - 25 Jul 2013 : 11:52:15
Ok .... heres by first query ....

When using the Head up display whils say laying a track, the lenght is shown ... GREAT ... however if I need to go through a via to another layer to continue, the length resets to 0.00 .... should this not be showing the continuing length of the track ???
