Posted - 04 Jun 2013 : 10:08:48 Wonder if anyone has come across this issue before and can offer any solution or comment?
I've just signed up to "JustCloud" storage as another "backup" for my archives and with this program installed on my PC (but not running) EPC (V15.0.8) fails to launch. Uninstall "JustCloud" and everything is back to normal again. Is this anything to do with the "sync" folder JustCloud provides which allows work to be done on a remote PC? |

Posted - 04 Jul 2013 : 14:15:35 There's just been a new release of JustCloud (v.1.4.0.17) which still had this incompatibility, but then JustCloud emailed me with the following advice,-
Open Settings (in JustCloud) you will see a new menu option called 'Explorer Integration', please un-tick both tick boxes in here and then click OK on Settings.
Guess what? Everything now works OK!
Appreciate everybody's comments and assistance in this matter.

Posted - 01 Jul 2013 : 13:02:40 The error 'a problem sending the command' is from Windows itself, as it failed to establish the link to the program and hand off the design file to it, so it is a natural follow-on from the inability of the application itself to start up.
If you use Procmon and add a 'filter' so you only see anything relating to Epcwin.exe, this may show you something about failing to find or load a required file, although the fact that Task Manager thinks the .exe is still running is pointing more towards the application being blocked from accessing something, or making a system call that is not returning.

Posted - 01 Jul 2013 : 12:54:37 David, I've now tried EPC running on my old XP Pro system with and without JustCloud. Unfortunately, I have the same problem on both machines.
Double clicking your exe file (or shortcut) gives me the egg timer that eventually disappears and then nothing, although Task Manager still reports EPC running!
If I double click the actual pcb file, I now get a box stating that,-
Windows (XP) cannot find C:\MyFolder\myfilename.pcb. Make sure you typed the name correct.
Windows 7 reports "There was a problem sending the command to the program" which must be one of your error traps. I believe that these two errors must offer a clue to what's going on.
It's nothing to do with user access control, and regrettably, I don't know what to look for in ProcMon!
Any further help would be appreciated please! |

Posted - 19 Jun 2013 : 08:57:14 We have just tried JustCloud on two systems, both 64-bit, one running Windows 7 and the other running Windows 8. Sadly (in a way) we can find no problems with it. I am able to set up the JustCloud desktop app to point to one of my data folders, and I can even open a PCB in Easy-PC and work on it and JustCloud is happy to take a backup copy in the background while the file is open. No problems starting the application either.
I can only think that there is something specific in the combination of system and runtime files on your machine that is causing this issue. The only thing I can suggest is to use something like ProcMon (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx) to track which files are being loaded - or attempting to be loaded - as Easy-PC tries to start. This may give you some clues about how far it gets before it fails.

Posted - 17 Jun 2013 : 10:54:09 Now had chance to uninstall EPC, install JustCloud and re-install EPC.
Still no luck. Uninstall JustCloud and EPC runs fine again. |

Posted - 13 Jun 2013 : 10:25:14 Thanks David, but can I request that your development team look into this matter please? I believe there is a "free"version of JustCloud with limited storage. As I say, when I kill JustCloud, there is no sign of it operating in the background (under Task Manager), and it doesn't affect any other application I care to run on my PC. JustCloud is very popular (ask Google for independent reviews!), and I strongly suspect that this may become more of an issue in due course. I have requested support from JustCloud but I don't believe I will get anywhere with their tech support. Or it is just me/my setup? It would be nice to know! When I get a bit of time, I'll re-install EPC after installing JustCloud and see what happens then. |

Posted - 13 Jun 2013 : 09:50:57 We haven't come across JustCloud before, but have seen problems with some other file management software causing system conflicts. One that springs to mind is Acronis, the presence of one of their services was sufficient to cause our software to become unstable.
The mystery is why this should happen at all. We are using standard MS API functions to open our design files, they are MS Compound Documents so the way the MS code works is that they are held open the whole time so that may be sufficient to 'block' the files from being copied/sync'd while they are open.
The fact that Easy-PC won't start when you have quit JustCloud makes me wonder whether the JustCloud process(es) have actually stopped, or whether there is still something ticking away in the background that is interfering.
best regards David

Posted - 11 Jun 2013 : 17:38:17 Hi Richard, thanks for your suggestion, but JustCloud doesn't seem to "lock" any other application files just EPC files!
Even when I've quit JustCloud, EPC fails to run. I can't even get it to run by double clicking EPCWin.exe The current EPC files aren't even in the folder that is used for the JustCloud backup!
I suspect that there is a Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64 bit "system" conflict somewhere, I just hope that it can be soon resolved.

Further experimentation indicates that if I install JustCloud when EPC is running, EPC will continue to run OK, but if I quit EPC and then re-start EPC it fails to run. JustCloud will make a "Trobleshooting Data Dump" file if this is of any help to the EPC development team. DLL files perhaps?
I would like to persevere with JustCloud as I feel it does offer the best features (for me anyway) over other Cloud-based storage systems.
Thank you.
Hi,
Is it possible that the software JustCloud is locking the files in some way ?.

Posted - 04 Jun 2013 : 12:06:18 Thanks for your comment Rob, but I wanted more space than the 7GB Microsoft offer. I bought 75 GByte from JustCloud (for £22.28 pa after you decline all but their last "special" offers!). |
