Posted - 10 May 2011 : 15:33:57 Hi there I have a had problem with V13.0.6 for a while now.
Now it halts me completely since I can not get enywhere.
Quite a while I got the "unrecoverable application error" when closing the program. Not a big problem since everything were saved and well working on the next opening.
Now I want to close that project, in order to opena new one .. But I can't. close - close all, ends up with the unrecoverable error. When reopening the program I'm back were I started.

Posted - 22 May 2011 : 10:34:45 Thank you for your suggestions.
I'm running Win 7 64bit.
I've tried to remove both ~<name>.sch ~<name>.pcb it doesn't seem to affect the problem.
To summarize: It allways the schematic tabwindow, that reveal the problem. A freshly loaded project closes correctly. But after starting to work on the project the problem arises at some point, during my work.

In the absence of feedback from No1 Try this
Sometimes a project gets corrupt due to temp files and other stuff in the working directories.
So
Backup your existing work directory (lest this fails - if it does you lose nothing)
Make a new directory. Copy just the schematic and PCB files into it.
Make a new project in this new directory. Add scm and pcb files to it.
Maybe all will now be well.
(remember the backup part of the above plan)

Posted - 20 May 2011 : 12:25:18 Hi Kruse
I notice you dont mention what OS you are using - this might be relevant. (Its just a straw to clutch at since you dont seem to be getting it sorted)
I had similar problems when trying to use 3D studio on a win7 system, I randomly appeared not to be able to do things with files.
It turned out the version I had wasn't fully compatible with the UAC system and was trying to store temp files in the program files tree. The OS was preventing this without giving me any notification.
I've had similar problems with other applications when using Vista. The latest version of ThumbsPlus crashes on vista all the time for these reasons I suspect.
I did have a similar problem to the one you describe with EPC but it seems to have sorted itself out and hasnt come back (I use V13 too).
Turning off UAC seems to solve a whole slew of problems on various applications has been my experience. The experts here might tell you different but I tend to always run as administrator.
Anyway - I hope thats worth looking at for you.

Posted - 20 May 2011 : 10:55:45 Now I'm stucked again in another project. I can't close the schematic tabpage.
Since no one is answering does it mean that there is no attention to this ?

Posted - 11 May 2011 : 10:51:01 Thank you DavidM for your interest. I now tried to go back and replicate the error. Reopening the "erratic" project, isn't erratic anymore I can "Close All" with no problem.
Remembering what I did I can replicate it..
What I did was starting a new project while one was open. That is pressing "New" -> project beginning to set up folder and project name. At some point I realized that one project were open, and I cancelled the "New" process in order to close the allready opened project. Then the problem came.. BTW: The program allways throws this message whenever I exit, whitout closing anything atfirst. However this os not a big problem.. |

Posted - 11 May 2011 : 10:04:38 It doesn't sound like anything you are doing should be causing this crash. Design files from earlier versions can be opened fine, and saved too, the only thing you would expect to see is a message warning you that overwriting such files would mean they could no longer be opened in that earlier version of the program.
I suggest the best thing to do might be to zip up all the files in your project and send them to support to see if we can reproduce the problem. |

Posted - 11 May 2011 : 09:17:43 The little subterfuge of davep got me out. However the problem with error on closing a project still exists. The one that got stucked were originally made in an earlier version. Changes has been made but though it originates from an earlier version. Could this cause the problem ? |

Posted - 11 May 2011 : 08:12:41 I now understand it's the schematic page, that can't be closed, and causes the error. The PCB tabpage closes nicely. |

Posted - 10 May 2011 : 20:45:43 Before opening EasyPC try moving the recent project to somewhere else. This will cause EasyPC to give an error because it cannot find the last project. The chances are this error will cancel out the one you are getting and allow you to create another project. There is something odd in the error trapping mechanism in EasyPC. I have some situations that cause errors every time I do certain actions (reported elsewhere on the forum), I avoid those particular actions now. |
