I have a component part (X) with no pcb footprint so that I can add things like mating connectors/ nuts / bolts to the schematic so that they become part of the BOM, but the BOM just groups them all together (X1,X2,X3,X4 etc) as one item even though they all have different part numbers/ order codes in their values.

Tried everything !! ... nothing fixes this.
David .... I have sent files.

Update ..... Thanks David, need to check group by part number !!!! |

Posted - 12 Sep 2016 : 09:45:55 It sounds to me like the key to the issue is the setup of your report template. My suspicion is that one of the 'Group By' settings needs changing so that those components are not grouped together. If you locate your .BCT file and send us a copy along with your design files, we can take a closer look for you.

Posted - 12 Sep 2016 : 09:31:02 Here's a couple of screendumps. The first from the schematic and the second from the BOM Composer. Have you saved your settings as a template? If so, you need to reload it after running BOM Composer and then you should get the result you're looking for.
BOM Composer appears to always revert to the default template even though I have one saved and I can't find any way of forcing it to use my template by default.

Tried your suggestions but no joy ! ..... If I have say 3 different "components" each with different values etc (i.e. X1, X2, X3) it simply lists all of these on one line of the BOM with the values of X3 !

Posted - 11 Sep 2016 : 20:32:26 Hi John,
Rowing is good for you I can see ! .... Not chunky at all, if fact looking a lot better than me !
Anyway will try your suggestions in the morning. I have also emailed Number One as I have found another bug where I cannot delete unused layers in V20.01 !
I have to dissagree regarding Bom Composer ..... I find it excellent ! Must be an East/West thing 😜
Cheers

Posted - 11 Sep 2016 : 15:59:07 Hi Iain. Sorry about the delay in replying I was otherwise engaged yesterday. See here:

I'm the chunky one on the far left of the header picture!
It works for me. You need to make sure that you have unticked the 'Generate from PCB' checkbox, ticked both of the 'Generate from SCM/PRJ' and 'Include SCM/PCB only' checkboxes and ticked both of the 'Value' and 'Component' checkboxes in the 'Sort By:' column.
I must say that the BOM Composer is probably the clunkiest piece of software I have come across since the original 'Colossal Cave' running on CPM!

Thanks for that, but thats exactly what I have got ! .... I tried your component and get the same results.
It works ok in for the Parts List in Reports BUT NOT in the BOM Composer !

Posted - 09 Sep 2016 : 20:31:37 I have a similar thing which works fine. It's just a filled circle (so it looks like a bullet) with no footprint and a component reference. I edit the references for the parts like NU1, NU2 for nuts and BL1, BL2 for bolts and add values then they all appear as separate items in the BOM.
