V19 has been launched to address "User Requested Features". I'd thought I'd create a post where we can publicly list our requests for other Users to address or comment upon. Then No1 can give them due consideration for the next release.

My request,-

Allow hyphenation/underscores in Component names (unless already addressed in V19!)

layers in schematics would be nice. sometimes i need to add notes on schematics but don't want them printed. if schematics had layer that could be turned on/off it would be great

Mine would be
Set a fixed default design directory.
Real Polar tracking. Seems to only place components tracking us still Horiz/vert.
Be nice to auto arc tracking.
Remove the stupid box that comes up with "Add corner " etc
even though I set it as off it comes back to haunt me. Especially after an update.
When laying a track on the top layer if a flooded layer is on the botom it blindingly covers the top layer .Only solution is to switch off botom layer. Why?

It would be good to be able to provide optional values for components for variants but I suppose that is quite a complicated feature to implement? It would allow BOM generation of variants where components are still there but sometimes you just need to change the actual part number or value.

Sorry Peter,-

Your example of R_Test-19 is also an invalid Component name, so is
Cap_acitor19

Invalid component name.
Names must start with a letter, followed by letters and/or digits.

My OP requested hyphenation/underscores to be allowed in Component names, and I do not see this being the case unless I'm missing your point.

No, it latches all the time, regardless of wether a component is already selected. That is the whole problem, we want it NON latching! Could this be a configuration option?

Hi Peter,

V19.0.1
Sorry to disagree with you, and the 'Character Restrictions' but when I rename my resistor component name from R19 to R19_Test (for example) EPC throws a wobbly,-

Invalid component name.
Names must start with a letter, followed by letters and/or digits.

Your original request (10) was for the ability to change name stem. That can be done. You're now asking for a different thing. Changing R19 to R_Test-19 would be valid, but it is a restriction unrelated to permitted characters that a component name may only consist of an alpha string followed by a number. You're trying to add text after the number which is not permitted because the component name is used for indexing and MUST end in a number.

(4) Cross Probe will already "latch", if you make sure you have nothing selected first. Deselect All, then Cross Probe, you can now click around selecting different items and it will stay in that mode.

(1) Put a button on the design technology page (and others where it's relevant) to toggle imperial/ metric!!!!!
(2) Layer transparency (without lowlighting).
(3) Tick boxes to include only desired items in multiple select.
(4) Cross probe turns itself off after use!!!!!
(5) Import/ export DesignSpark PCB. Probably an afternoon's work for an intern. Possibly political?
(6) Design check user's intentions, so it tells me what I really meant to do. The d'oh button.
(7) Option to autoincrement text, net names etc.
(8) Schematic hierarchy that works, with blocks usable like components.
(9) Scalable schematic symbols.
(10) Rename group selected components from schematic or PCB, with base name plus automatic numeric extension. Useful when a customer says they prefer, say, TRxx instead of Qxx and so on.

(1) Already on the wish list.
(2) Can't do this directly because internally colours are summed. You can do this to a limited extent on the 'Settings and Highlights' tab under [View], [Display], but if this isn't adequate, the only other option is disabling 'True Width' as required on the 'Layer and Layer Spans' tab, but in this case, also see the 'Hollow Track when True Width Off' option on the 'Display' tab under [Settings], [Preferences].
(3) You can do this by setting what can be selected under [View], [Display], but there ARE already tick boxes in the 'More' section on the 'Layers' dockable bar.
(4) That's not practical, simply because there's no way of knowing if it's only required for a one shot or repeated use. The 'Select' icon immediately to the left of the cross probe icon is the fastest way of disabling it, but you could also put this function on a dedicated hot key if you wished.
(5) Please ask RS about this.
(6) Unfortunately, the technology for interpreting brain waves is not yet available, so this can't at present be achieved. However, you can save and load specific selections for either normal checks or sign-off checks, so it's possible to define standard settings.
(7) This needs more detail as to when and where this would be required. This ability already exists when cloning projects.
(8) The hierarchy DOES work. The restrictions on what can be copied and how are dictated by the absolute necessity of preserving the design integrity, and not accidentally creating spurious cross connections.
(9) Noted and recorded as a user request.
(10) This is already available within component renumber. There are fields for 'Match Name Stem' then 'Apply Name Stem' which allow the change to be controlled.

See [Help], [Contents], then look up 'Character Restrictions' on the 'Index' tab - they are allowed!

True Type Font Scaling.

EasyPC cannot output 100% scaled hardcopy (Windows or PDFs)True Type Fonts.

Gerbers have to be generated (which are to scale) and then subsequently imported into a 3rd Party Gerber Viewer, and only then can 100% scaled hardcopy prints or PDFs can be produced. What a palaver!

This is a serious bug that need addressing.

Good luck with getting that noticed. They do not even openly ask for user's comments do they? You would have thought they might have put a sticky up themselves asking for feedback and features we might like. I have no idea how they decide what features to add.
