Hi

When I create a new component shape for the PCB and I try to align shapes / pads or terminals of varying sizes using the align tool it does it but with an offset so that they don't actually line up. Almost as though the centres are in the wrong place?
I normally need to align by the horizontal or vertical centre.

I have tried changing the grid to see if that had an effect but having tried it a couple of times I didn't notice any change. Am I in the right area? It is so frustrating when making a simple layout that it is so difficult.

I am using Easy-PC version 15

Can anyone shed some light onto this and help me out?

Many thanks

The problem was submitted to support and the response was the following.

It looks like there is a problem with how it works out the 'middle' of each item. For these pads it seems to be using the full extents of the pad which includes the pin name, thus skewing the calculation of the centre. If you move the pin name N2 so it is 'inside' the pad, you should find that it aligns with the other pad as expected.

What it should be doing instead is taking the 'basic' extents of the item without including attached things like names. I have logged this on our support database so that we can fix the code for the next patch.

So if you have the same problem as I do then at least we have a way round it until the patch comes out.

I have tried a few combinations but it always seems to work for me. I can only suggest you send a small example file to our Support team with the relevant details and ask them to take a look for you.

Hi

As I said I align them by the vertical or horizontal middles!

Being a different shape or size shouldn't make them not align by the middles.

If I have regular rectangles of different sizes and try to aling them by the vertical middle they won't lign up by the middle.

I am not aligning them by the edges and then wonder why the middles don't line up!

Regards

Perhaps it's because the pads/shapes are different sizes, when you align (the edge of the item) the centres will then have to be offset?
